SiteScan Q and A: Duplicate Tracking Code Warning

Question: I was wondering if you could tell me why it says that the tracking code is 100% but the ga.js tracking code is on the page twice? Shouldn’t there be a warning?

Answer:
There is a warning for duplication of tracking code. If you download the .csv report, under the "Extra Information" column, the following message is present, "Duplicate empty page tracker functions found".

While it will not trigger an error in SiteScan, leaving duplicated code on the same page is not recommended as it may be counted twice in your GA reports.

SiteScan Q and A:

Question: Is it possible to exclude certain .html pages from being included when I submit a SiteScan? There are some .html documents that don’t need the tracking code installed on them.

Answer: Since your website has an XML sitemap (which we strongly recommend), SiteScan will use this to determine which pages to scan.

If you’d like to exclude certain pages, you can do so by removing them from your sitemap.xml, running a SiteScan, and then putting them back afterward.

New Feature: 3xx Redirect Notifications

When scanning a page, SiteScan is designed to follow 3xx HTTP Redirects, and scan the destination page. This ensures that you will get a complete and accurate SiteScan even if your sitemap.xml or search results have not been updated to reflect URL changes on your site.

However, until now your reports would show the scan results attributed to the original URL that was attempted - not the final URL that was actually scanned. This was confusing and misleading. No more!

Now, when one or more 3xx Redirects are followed for a page, this will be indicated in the "extras" column of the CSV report with the following message:

3xx Redirect to http://www.domain.com/final_page.htm

The URL on the message is the URL of the page that was redirected to - the page that was actually scanned.

Keep on SiteScanning!
